This Black Swan was spotted on Porthloo pond today.
A native of Australia and Tasmania the bird is also found wild in New Zealand to where it was introduced. It is the world’s only black swan although its flight feathers, normally almost fully hidden at rest, are white.
Quite how it got to be sharing the water with the more familiar ducks on the pond, I’m not quite sure. With the current strong winds and driving rain, it was probably wishing it was back down under in its native sunnier climate.
