‘Irene Too’ crosses the finishing line !

'Irene Too' wins Ladies Veterans race.


The 2006 World Pilot Gig Championships got off to a flying start, with the veteran Ladies crew of the Falmouth based Gig, ‘Irene Too’ winning the first race of this weekends sporting event.
On a fine cool evening, the jubilant crew finished some 12 lengths in front of second placed ‘Mary Newman’ (Caradon Gig Club) with ‘Morlander’ (Penryn) and ‘Double Dutch’ (River Teign) in third and fourth place respectively.

World Pilot-gig Racing Championships 2006.


The 2006 World Pilot Gig Championships take place on the Islands this forthcoming bank holiday weekend.
The annual event, Scilly’s largest sporting event of the year has attracted 97 competing gigs and with crews from as far afield as the USA and the Netherlands in addition to the Mainland and Scilly, the annual event looks set to be as colourful and competitive as ever.
Friday evening sees the experienced ‘veterans’ races for both men and women kick-start the weekend’s activities.
